Youth Day Festival 2026 Showcases Talent, Leadership and Community
The St Martin's School campus was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and friendly competition as students came together for the annual Youth Day Festival(opens in new tab) on 5 and 6 June 2026. Held in recognition of Youth Day, the festival celebrated the energy, leadership, and potential of young people while bringing school communities together through sport, teamwork, and shared experiences.
Throughout the two-day event, students competed in netball, soccer, and chess, showcasing not only their skills and determination but also the values of sportsmanship, respect, and community that are central to life at St Martin's. The festival once again provided an opportunity for young people to build friendships, embrace healthy competition, and celebrate the importance of working together.
A Celebration of Youth Through Sport and Competition
The Youth Day Festival offered something for every participant, with each competition highlighting different talents and strengths.
The netball courts were filled with energy as teams demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Every match reflected the commitment and enthusiasm of the players, creating an exciting atmosphere for teammates and supporters alike.
On the soccer field, students displayed impressive skill, perseverance, and passion for the game. From closely contested matches to memorable moments of teamwork, the competition provided plenty of excitement while reinforcing the importance of respect and fair play.
Away from the sporting fields, the chess tournament challenged students to think strategically and remain focused under pressure. The competition showcased patience, concentration, and healthy rivalry as participants tested their abilities across the board.
Although each discipline was unique, they all shared a common purpose—bringing young people together to challenge themselves, support one another, and proudly represent their schools.
More Than Just Competition
While the matches and tournaments created plenty of memorable moments, the Youth Day Festival was about much more than winning.
The event celebrated the potential of young people and recognised the important role that schools play in developing confident, respectful, and compassionate future leaders. Throughout the festival, students encouraged one another, formed new friendships, and demonstrated the values of integrity, leadership, and teamwork that define both the occasion and the St Martin's community.(opens in new tab)
The enthusiastic support of parents, coaches, staff members, volunteers, and visiting schools contributed to a welcoming atmosphere that made the festival a memorable experience for everyone involved.

St Martin’s School proudly hosted 12 schools from across Johannesburg, bringing together more than 600 participants for a celebration of school spirit, talent and community.
