Celebrating Heritage and Community: St Martin’s School's Spectacular Week
In the spirit of unity and celebration, the St Martin’s School recently hosted a week-long extravaganza that showcased the deep-rooted connections within its community. From a vibrant school play production exploring African identity to a glamorous Sapphire Soirée Gala Dinner and a festive Family Fun Day, the school's roots run deep, just like the trees along a riverbank, nourishing the bonds between parents, children, alumni, and friends.
“They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.” (Jeremiah)
The vibrant African Roots School Play Production
Under an oak tree covered with spring leaves, Rev Bhekisisa referred to the school putting down roots and blooming with new life: an excellent link to the shweshwe baobab tree on stage for our production of African Roots! From Grade 4 to Matric explored our identity as young Africans. The stage was filled with vibrant colours and smiling faces, in our first whole-school show!
The glamorous Sapphire Soirée Gala Dinner
Then, on the Friday night, the venue for the show was transformed into a glittering and glamorous Sapphire Soirée fundraiser complete with excellent food, glamorous audience, jazz music provided by Bisoux and the incomparable Jason Goliath.
The festive Family Fun Day
Then, on the Saturday, we ended off a week of glittering celebration with a Family Fun Day where water slides and mini doughnuts dominated the scene. Many alumni arrived to defend their honour on the sports fields, honouring Akash Singh in the annual Hockey match, as well as Netball and Soccer. The seeds we planted back then are strong (the alumni won – with a bit of creative reffing)!
It was life-affirming to see parents, children, alumni and friends come together to celebrate our very special school.
